Venture Crew 1940 offers a unique program for young men and women.  The Crew’s program is determined by the needs
and wants of it’s membership, which currently includes camping (including both drop-camping and backpacking) and simply
conducting fun activities for its members (such as movie nights, bowling, mini-golf, seasonal events, etc.).

The Crew is made up of youth members (those that fall between the ages of 14 and 21) and adult advisors (those over the
age of 21).  The Crew is run by its youth officers, who are elected by the youth membership.  The adults provide support and
advice to the youth, and ensure the Crew’s overall well being.  The organization provides a great setting to gain leadership
experience, participate in fun activities, and to make new friends.

We invite you to explore our Web site to learn more about Crew 1940 and the program that it offers.  We try to offer
something for everyone, so you might find that you’d fit right in with us!  If you like to camp and participate in unique
activities, then you've come to the right place!

Below is a brief F.A.Q. about Crew 1940.  Please feel free to
contact us with any additional questions and we will be happy to
answer them in a timely manner!

F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1:  What is a Venture Crew?

A1:  A Venture Crew is a Scouting unit that has a program that is focused on males and females ages 14 to 21.  The
Venturing program is youth led and can be based around several different activities and themes.  The program offers
opportunities for leadership and advancement.  Advancement is not a required part of Crew 1940’s program, but it is an
option for those who would like to take advantage of it.  For male members, there is a chance to become an Eagle Scout
while a member of a Venture Crew (by age 18), if the desire is present.

Q2:  Do Crew 1940 members wear uniforms?

A2:  The Scout Shop offers a uniform for Venturing units; however, Crew 1940 does not require a uniform.  Those that wish
to own the uniform sold by the Scout Shop for formal Scouting events, they are welcome to do so.  Also, existing Crew
members who may own the blue Dickies shirt, used by the Crew in the past, are welcome to still wear it when they want.

Q3:  Is Crew 1940 part of a religious youth group?

A3:  The overall Scouting program naturally lends itself to some non-denominational religious themes, but as with Cub and
Boy Scouts, Venturing is not a program centered around themes designated by a church or religious institution.  For
instance, Covenant Presbyterian Church is the charter organization for Crew 1940.  The church provides us with a place to
meet  (when needed, at the moment we do not have regularly scheduled meetings, just activities) and to be based out of.  In
return we may participate in a few service projects around the church grounds a few times a year.  But, no, the Crew is not a
church youth group.

Q4:  How much does it cost to join Crew 1940?

A4: The national fee to join a Venture Crew is $10 per year.  Crew 1940 does not charge any other dues at the moment, so
all you have to worry about is $10 a year and any fees associated with activities that the Crew does (i.e. camping costs,
money to go bowling, see a movie, etc.).  If you are already a registered member of another unit within the Boy Scouts of
America (i.e. Troop), there is NO FEE!

Q5:  Which part of the year does Crew 1940 conduct its program?

A5:  Crew 1940 meets and conducts activities on a calendar year-round basis.

Q6:  Can my parents/guardians get involved?

A6:  While parental involvement is not required, we do encourage parents to register with the Crew to become advisors or
committee members.

Q7:  Can joining Crew 1940 help me get into a school or get a job?

A7:  While there is no direct promise of such a thing happening, involvement in extracurricular activities is usually viewed as
a plus on any application.  Plus, we hope that your involvement with Crew 1940 will help you pick up a few skills for the future
through our youth leadership offices and other such opportunities.

Q8:  Can my girlfriend/boyfriend join?

A8:  Yes, as long as the P.D.A. (Public Displays of Affection/Aggression) is kept out of Crew 1940 meetings and events.  If
further explanation is needed, please
contact us.

Q9:  Why are there twinkling stars in the background of this website?

A9:  It symbolizes the night sky that we see when we are camping.  Plus, it just looks cool!

Q10:  Where is the picture from that is at the top of each page (banner)?

A10:  That picture was taken at the Rocky Mountain National Park by Crew 1940 on their trip to the Philmont Scout Rance in
June 2008.

Q11:  What if I have a question not covered here?

A11:  Please feel free to contact us with any additional question and we will be happy to get back to you as soon as possible.
